Matthew James

Wildcat junior Matthew James has orally committed to the University of Illinois to continue to baseball career after high school.  James decision came down to the Illini and the University of Iowa, with his desire to pitch and play the field being a strong factor in the final determination.  For a full story, check out Randy Kindred’s article in the Pantagraph

On Saturday, April 30th, the Wildcat Diamond Club hosted the 5th Annual Dinner/Auction in the Normal West gymnasium with great success!

A record crowd of almost 300 players, coaches, parents and supporters raised over $10,000 to fund the construction of a concession stand/press box at our Freshmen field at Parkside Junior High, and the purchase of a new scoreboard at the Normal West Varsity field.

Special “thank you” to all our donors for their generous contributions of auction items. The players, coaches, parents and fans are extremely grateful for your generous support of the program.

To plan and execute a successful event like this takes a large, talented and dedicated team. A special “thank you” to the board members who lead/served on the various committees, parent committee members, the Normal West staff and our caterer Alexander’s Steak House.

The Varsity squad enjoyed another terrific season, with a record of 31-8 overall, which included the Big 12 Conference and IHSA 4A Regional Championships.  The Junior Varsity and Freshmen teams were 20-12 and 14-8, respectively.

We are proud of the successful tradition of Normal West Baseball!

Three Wildcat players have recently been named the Athlete of the Week.  Matthew James was honored with that title this week for his perfect game against University High.  Two weeks ago, Alex Jefferson was honored as Athlete of the Week for his performances against Morton and O’Fallon.  The week before that, Ryan Speller was the Athlete of the Week for his clutch RBIS against East Peoria and four hits against Springfield.

Congratulations to each of these Wildcats for this honor!!
