 The Wildcat Freshman team (8-0)  beat intercity rivals the Normal Community Ironmen.

Game:

In an eagerly anticipated matchup  between  two intercity rivals, the Normal West Wildcats (8-0) came out on top with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Ironmen of Normal Community.  Pitching was again solid as Matthew James, Alex Jefferson and Adam McGinnis held the Ironmen to 1 run on 4 hits, striking out a combined 9 batters in 7 innings.

 Offensively, the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and then broke things open in the third on a Roy Hobbs like moment when Matthew James stroked a 2 run blast that almost took out the home teams scoreboard.  Adam McGinnis added a double and RBI’s came from Josh Appel (1), Turner Reid (1), Kevin Myers (1), Matthew James (2) and Alex Jefferson (1).

 REMINDERS:

Freshman home game tonight, Friday, April 16th against Prairie Central:   Please do NOT park in the Parkside Elementary parking lot. Use the Junior High parking lot.

 The Wildcat Freshman team (7-0) continued their winnings ways in another convincing win at home against the St. Thomas Moore Sabers.

Nick Heib was the starting pitcher striking out 5 of the 10 batters he faced, only allowing 1 base runner.  Turner Reid and Caleb Smith came in to relieve allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs over the next two innings.
 
The offensive juggernaut for the Cats continued as they scored 16 runs on 15 hits.  Adam McGinnis went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs;  Kevin Myers went 3 for 4;  Matthew James went 2 for 2 , 4 RBIs and 3 runs; and Alex Jefferson went 2 for 2 and 4 runs led the attack.  Matthew James had a mammoth 3 run homer in the 3rd and Chris Smickilas ripped a 2 run double in the 4th.
 
Thanks again to the awesome field side grill lead by Denise James and Cindy Smith serving the tasty burgers, brats and dogs by chef Marty Smith.

 The Wildcat Freshman team (6-0) swept a double header over Champaign Centennial by the scores of 23-3 and 16-4.

Matthew James pitched 2 scoreless innigs, striking out 4.  Matt Hunsaker and Kyle Zulz finished the game limiting the Chargers to just 3 runs.
 
Hitting stars included Alex Jefferson who went 3 for 3 including 2 home runs and 3 RBIs.  Adam McGinnis went 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs.  Kevin Meyers went 2 for 2 (2-doubles) with 2 RBIs and Austin Arreola clearing the bases with a grand slam.

Game 2:

Alex Jefferson pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 4.  Tyler Ort and Nick Heib finished the game allowing just 4 runs over 4 innings.

Alex Jefferson had two hits and 3 RBIs including hitting the his 3rd home run of the day.  Matthew James went 3 for 3 (2 doubles) and 2 RBIs.  Adam McGinnis went 3 for 5 including a 3 run home rune and had 6 RBIs.  Tyler Ort was 3 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Logan Park made a successful recovery from his broken wrist and played right field.

Jacob Evans was flawless handling the scoreboard duties.  That advanced math is really starting to pay off.

A special thanks to our concessions crew lead by the head chef Marty Smith, baker extraordinaire Cindy Smith and organizer Denise James.  The between games rush was handled swiftly with the help of Jay and Brenda Heib, Sheila Zulz and Brenda Evans.  Also, we want to thank Elaine Hunsaker to quickly running to the store for more chips.
