THANK YOU for Auction/Dinner Success

 2010 Diamond Banquet
Wildcat Parents/Supporters,

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend the 4th Annual Wildcat Diamond Club Dinner/Auction last evening at the U.S Cellular Coliseum. Our goal was to raise $10,000 to help fund the construction of a double batting cage (Astroturf base) between the Normal West Varsity and JV fields. Because of your generosity, we are pleased to announce we surpassed our goal and raised $11, 224.31! Thank you for supporting the Normal West Baseball Program!

Sincerely,

Wildcat Diamond Club Board

Emmerson Leads Wildcats Past the Panthers

The Normal West Wildcats took care of business with an 11-1 victory over Decatur Eisenhower at windy West Varsity Field on Tuesday.  With the wind howling in from left field it was a tough day for hitters on anything up in the air.  After a slow start, the Wildcats cashed in on some Panthers miscues to up their record to 18-5 overall and 6-0 in the Big 12 conference.  Tyler Emmerson was tough on the mound, getting the victory, and tough at the plate with two hits and two walks.

Emmerson pitched 5 2/3 innings of one hit ball, giving up only a single to center in the 2nd inning and a walk to start the 6th inning, which turned into an unearned run.  He struck out five batters in the outing and was helped by some very good plays in the field.  Michael Collins stole a hit in the 3rd with a leaping snag at second base and Jason Cullen made a tough play on a foul ball up against the fence in the 4th inning.  Alex Jefferson made his varsity debut in the 6th inning, giving up a single and a ground ball error before getting the last out.

The Wildcats got on the board in the 2nd when Erik Sipes reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a hit by Tyler Emmerson.  In the 4th inning, Sipes started things off again with a walk and stolen base.  Wes Sery singled and stole second base to put runners in scoring position.  After Emmerson walked, Adam Seifert lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.  When the third baseman cut the throw and threw behind Sery at second, the ball went into right center field and allowed both Sery and Emmerson to score.

In the 5th inning, the Wildcats tagged on three more when Jason Cullen walked and stole second base, Jacob Birlingmaier walked and then, with Trey Rogers courtesy running, the double steal brought Cullen home.   Sipes singled and stole second base for the third time before Wes Sery brought in two runs with a single to left.  In the 6th inning, Rogers led off with a bunt single and stole second.  Brandon Brittin took a walk, as did Birlingmaier to load the bases.  A dropped fly ball brought home Rogers, and after an Emmerson walk, Adam Seifert finished it with a single to score Sipes, his fourth run of the game.

Sipes, Sery and Emmerson led the Wildcats with two hits each, while Sipes, Sery and Seifert each had two runs batted in.

The Wildcats travel to Decatur for the rematch on Thursday at Stephen Decatur Middle School at 4:30.
