3-27-10 Freshman Wildcats Win Opening Day

The Normal West Freshman baseball team started off their 2010 season by sweeping a doubleheader from intercity foe Central Catholic by the scores of 18-1 and 15-2. 

 In the first game, behind a strong pitching performance from Matthew James who threw 3 innings of no-hit baseball while striking out 6 .  The Wildcats scored early and often .   Alex Jefferson hit a  home run and had 4 RBI’s on the day.  Jacob Evans, in a collision at first base, broke his collarbone and is expected to be out of action for up to 6 weeks. 

 In the second game, Nick Heib continued the strong pitching by throwing 3 innings of no-hit baseball.  Hitting stars for West were Nick Heib who went 4-4 at the plate, including a home run.  Matthew James, Adam McGinnis and Turner Reid (grand slam) who also hit homeruns on the day.

 The Wildcats take their 2-0 record to Pekin for a single game at 4:15 this coming Thursday.

Central Catholic 3/26/2010 Sophomore

Sophomores Wildcats Shellac Central Catholic 11 – 0

The Normal West JV Wildcats jumped on the Central Catholic Saints early and cruised to a 11–0 victory at the crisp and windy JV Wildcat field on Friday March 26th.  The Wildcats are off to a 1 – 0 record.

After a scoreless first the opposing pitcher Ben Meir came out with a sore arm and the Wildcats jumped all over several subsequent Saint’s pitchers.

Today’s doubleheader (Saturday March 27th) against Lincoln at Wildcat JV Field will see highs in the lower fifties and winds 10 to 20 mph.   Go Wildcats!
