NCWHS jumped out early and held on for a 6-4 victory in a rain-shortened start to their double-header with the Purple Raiders in Bloomington Saturday morning.

Mark Ogden started on the bump for the Wildcats, throwing 5 1/3 strong innings while ringing up four strikeouts and scattering five hits and just two earned runs en-route to the victory.  Zack Jones pitched the final 2/3, logging another strikeout while allowing no hits or earned runs before the rains came.

McCade Brown (2 singles, 2 RBIs) led the hit-parade for the Cats, with Ogden (single, 3 RBIs) and Tyler Ott (single, RBI) also driving in runs in the victory.  Jeremy Fischer, Jake Rutkowski, Ben Smith, Holden Lueck, Max Deffenbaugh, and Chase Hacker all delivered timely base hits to secure the win.

Bloomington turned the tables in the second game, jumping out to an early lead and fending off a late rally by the Wildcats to earn an 8-6 victory.

Camden Schwarz started on the hill for the Normal West, lasting 4 innings and logging two strikeouts, nine hits, and six earned runs.  Chase Hacker took the loss, throwing 1 inning while registering two more strikeouts against just one hit and one earned run before giving way to Jeremy Fischer for the final inning.  Fischer recorded an additional strikeout, gave up two hits, and allowed one earned run in relief.

Tyler Ott (2 singles) and McCade Brown (2 singles) stayed hot for the Wildcats, while Matthew Pritchett (single, 2 RBIs), Zack Jones (single, RBI), Ben Smith (single, RBI), Ben Heberer (single), and Ethan Stroyan (single) all provided key offense in the loss.

The Wildcats will return to action when they face cross-town rival Normal Community Tuesday evening at Normal West at 4:30pm.

Wildcats’ bats go quiet in loss to Limestone at Dozer Park.

West starting pitcher, Reed Rogers, suffers some early Wildcat miscues in giving up 0 earned runs on 2 hits, and 3 strikeouts in 3 innings.  Steven Lorenz relieves in the 4th, going 2 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits.  Nate Beal gets his first inning of pitching varsity baseball in the 6th inning, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits.

Offensively, the West bats were fairly quiet except for Mitch Fairfield.  Fairfield led the Wildcats with two hits.

Normal West will play next on Saturday, at Urbana (DH), 10:00 A.M.

Wildcats’ bats explode in an easy win over the Panthers.

West starting pitcher, Ben Lawyer, goes two innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 2 hits.  Nick Bronson relieves in the third to finish off the shortened game, by allowing only 1 earned run on 2 hits and 8 strikeouts.

Offensively, the West bats finally came alive. Evan Mucciolo, 3 hits and a RBI; Blake Parker, 2 hits (HR with two on in the 4th) and 4 RBIs; Nate Beal, 2 hits and a RBI; Ryan Frye, 2 hits (HR with one on in the 1st) and 3 RBIs; Dave Watson, 2 hits and a RBI; Reed Rogers, 2 hits and a RBI; Adam Hoerner, 2 hits and a RBI; and Mitch Thomas, 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Dante Ruffin (1 on in the 2nd) and Steven Lorenz ( solo in the 5th) also connected for their first HRs of the season.

Normal West will play next at Dozer Park (Peoria) vs. Limestone on Friday, 7:30 pm.
