Normal West out-hit University High but it wasn’t enough to upend the Pioneers, as the Cats fell 2-0 in a hard-fought game Monday night at NCWHS.

Zack Jones started on the hill and threw 5 strong innings for NCWHS in defeat, striking out seven while allowing just two hits and one earned run.  Jake Rutkowski closed out the final 2 innings, striking out two more while giving up one hit and no earned runs in relief.

Max Deffenbaugh (2 singles) led the Wildcats at the plate, with Tyler Ott (single), Jeremy Fischer (single), and Chase Hacker (single) each chipping in with base hits in the loss.

Normal West will look to start a new win streak when they face Peoria Richwoods at home Tuesday evening at 4:30pm.

Wildcats score early and often in cruising to a win over the Panthers.

West receives a fine pitching performance from Noah Johnson who goes the distance giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 5 strikeouts. Offensively, the Wildcats were led by Evan Mucciolo and Reid Birlingmair, with two hits apiece.

Normal West will play next at Decatur Eisenhower on Thursday, 4:30 pm.

The Wildcats notched their seventh consecutive victory, defeating East Peoria 10-5 Friday evening at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

Marg Ogden started on the bump for the Cats, recording five strikeouts and scattering eight hits while giving up just two earned runs over 6 innings of work to secure the win.  Zack Jones continued his dominance in relief, throwing 1 shutout inning and logging two additional strikeouts while giving up no earned runs to close out the victory.

Holden Lueck (double, 3 singles, RBI) and Tyler Ott (4 singles, RBI) put on a clinic for the Wildcats, going a combined 8-8 at the dish.  McCade Brown (double, single, 2 RBIs), Chase Hacker (single, 2 RBIs), Jake Rutkowski (single), and Jeremy Fischer (single) all delivered clutch hits, with Ben Smith, Ben Heberer, and Mark Ogden all bringing home one RBI a piece en-route to victory.

The Wildcats return to action when they face University High at Normal West Monday evening at 4:30pm.
