Wildcats Soar Past the Eagles

After quiet bats for two innings, the Normal West Wildcat’s Matthew James opened the floodgates on a four run, six hit third inning with a triple to deep left center.  James stuffed the Rantoul Eagles on the mound too, leading the Wildcats to a 13-0 five inning victory.  The Wildcats upped their record to 15-4 on the season with the win.

Following up his perfect game in his last outing, James was dominant again allowing only one baserunner, a leadoff single in the first.   He struck out 12 didn’t walk a batter.  The only plays the defense made were a foul pop to third base, a looper to third and Garrett Cook’s diving catch in left field to end the game.  James moves to 4-0 on the season.

James led off the 3rd inning with a triple.  Garrett Cook then singled to left field on a nice piece of batwork, slapping an 0-2 curve between the drawn in infield to score James.  Alex Jefferson blasted a double to left center to score Cook and moved up on a nice Kyle Vaughn sacrifice bunt.  Adam McGinnis found the left side hole for an RBI single before Wes Sery doubled to put runners at second and third.  Erik Sipes loaded the bases and Adam Seifert’s infield hit scored Jefferson to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

In the 4th, Garrett Cook singled to center for his second hit of the game.  He moved to second on an infield error and third on Vaughn’s second nice sacrifice bunt.  McGinnis scored Cook and Jefferson with a single to center before Sery got aboard on an infield error.  After they both stole a base to move up, Seifert drove them in with an RBI single.

In the 5th, James tripled again to the same spot to lead things off.  Cook walked and Jefferson got a hit in front of the right fielder to score James.  After McGinnis and Sery walked, Seifert cleared the bases with a triple over the center fielder.

Seifert led the Wildcats with four hits in the game while Jefferson, McGinnis, James and Cook had two hits.  Seifert had six runs batted in, while McGinnis had three and Jefferson two.

The Wildcats return to action tomorrow against Decatur Eisenhower at Stephen Decatur in a Big 12 Conference matchup.

WJBC Athlete of the Week

Three Wildcat players have recently been named the Athlete of the Week.  Matthew James was honored with that title this week for his perfect game against University High.  Two weeks ago, Alex Jefferson was honored as Athlete of the Week for his performances against Morton and O’Fallon.  The week before that, Ryan Speller was the Athlete of the Week for his clutch RBIS against East Peoria and four hits against Springfield.

Congratulations to each of these Wildcats for this honor!!

Wildcats Rough Up the Tigers Twice

The Normal West Wildcats scored in eight straight innings over two games, getting consistent strong offense to tame the Urbana Tigers 13-3 and 11-0 in a Big 12 Conference doubleheader at West Varsity Field.  The victories improve the Wildcats record to 14-4 overall and 2-0 in conference – only the first game of Saturday doubleheaders counts in the standings.

In the first game, the offensive highlights included two hits from Adam McGinnis and Trey Rogers each, and Wes Sery getting hit by a pitch three times.  Trey Rogers had three runs batted in and Adam Seifert, Alex Jefferson and Adam McGinnis had two each.

Kyle Vaughn collected his fourth win of the season on the mound.  Kyle went the distance, giving up three runs, two earned on three hits and two walks with a hit batter while striking out six hitters.

In the second game, Adam Seifert went to the hill and earned his third victory of the year.  He stymied the Tigers over five innings on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Alex Jefferson led the charge with two hits.  The Wildcats only needed seven to score their eleven runs as they were helped seven walks and hit batters.  Wes Sery needed a hot tub after the game after taking his fourth of the day.  Sery, Matthew James and Adam Seifert each drove in two runs.

The Wildcats return to action this week, hopefully, for a crack at going to Decatur Eisenhower after being rained out three times already.
