The NCWHS Freshman seventh inning rally fell just short, as they dropped a close one to St. Thomas More 15-12 Monday evening in Champaign.

 Jeremy Fischer and Ben Smith powered the offense for the Wildcats, with Fischer collecting a pair of doubles and four RBIs and Smith adding an RBI double and a single.  Ethan Stroyan added a pair of RBI singles, while Jake Marti and Holden Lueck added singles and two RBIs each.  McCade Brown and Jake Rutkowski also recorded singles, rounding out the offense for NCWHS.

 Jake Marti started on the hill and worked 3 2/3 innings for the Wildcats.  Holden Lueck chipped in 1 1/3 innings and recorded three strikeouts, with Tyler Joaquin closing out the sixth inning – allowing no hits and recording one strikeout.

The NCWHS Freshman Wildcats return to conference action at home Thursday evening against NCHS at 4:30pm.

The NCWHS Wildcats evened their conference record at 1-1 after jumping out early against Champaign Centennial and plating twelve runs over the last three innings enroute to a 13-3 victory in the first half of their double-header Saturday morning.

Mark Ogden started on the mound and was the winning pitcher for the Cats, giving up just two earned runs and recording three strikeouts over four innings of work.  Tyler Joaquin closed out the final inning, giving up no hits and no runs while striking out two.

Tyler Ott and Jeremy Fischer led the offensive charge for the Wildcats, each recording three hits – including a double and an RBI sacrifice fly for Ott.  Holden Lueck and Jake Rutkowski also came up big for NCWHS, with Lueck recording three RBIs on a double in the third and Rutkowski adding three more RBIs on a single in the fourth and a walkoff double that plated two in the bottom of the fifth. 

Chase Hacker added two RBIs on a pair of singles, with Ogden, McCade Brown, and Tyler Joaquin each logging base hits in the Wildcats victory.

NCWHS mounted a furious rally in the second game of their double-header, overcoming a twelve run deficit in the fourth inning to briefly take an 18-17 lead in the bottom of the sixth before finally succumbing 22-18 to Champaign Centennial Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Ott was the starting pitcher, throwing two innings and recording five strikeouts for the Wildcats.  Jake Rutkowski, Camden Schwarz, and Chase Hacker all pitched in relief for NCWHS.

Jake Marti sparked the offense for the Cats, registering three hits and four RBIs – including a pair of singles and a double.  Rutkowski added three RBIs, including a pair on a double in the fourth inning.  Zack Jones and Tyler Ott each added a single and a pair of RBIs, and Schwarz added a line drive single and an RBI.  McCade Brown also added a critical RBI during the Wildcats sixth inning rally.

The NCWHS Freshman Wildcats hit the road for their next game Monday afternoon at 4:30pm when they take on St. Thomas More in Champaign.
