NCWHS rallied to pull within a run in the top of the fourth, but couldn’t quite get over the hump – falling 6-3 to Central Catholic Friday evening at McGraw Park.

Chase Hacker and Jake Rutkowski combined for a solid pitching performance for the Wildcats, with Hacker starting on the bump and going three innings – registering two strikeouts and allowing just three earned runs.  Rutkowski closed out the final three innings for the Cats, giving up no earned runs and logging three additional strikeouts.

Rutkowski (2 singles, RBI), Tyler Joaquin (double, RBI), Jake Marti (single, RBI) and Zack Jones (double) led the offense for the Wildcats, with Hacker and McCade Brown adding base hits in the loss.

The NCWHS Freshman Wildcats play their next game at home against U-High Tuesday afternoon at 4:30pm.

The NCWHS Freshman fell 4-2 to Mahomet-Seymour at home Wednesday evening, despite a stellar pitching performance by Ben Smith and a seventh inning rally that came up just short.

Smith pitched a gem for the Wildcats, recording six strikeouts and allowing no earned runs and just two hits over six innings.  Tyler Joaquin came on in relief to close out the seventh for the Cats.

Zack Jones (2 singles) led the offense for the Wildcats, with Ryan Weber, Tyler Ott, Mark Ogden, and Max Deffenbaugh all adding singles in the loss.

The NCWHS Freshman Wildcats return to the road with a 5pm game at Central Catholic Friday evening.

NCWHS uses sixth inning rally to defeat conference rival Champaign Central 17-5

The NCWHS Freshman used a big sixth inning to pull away from Champaign Central 17-5 in conference action Monday evening in Champaign.

Tyler Ott (2 doubles, 1 single, 3 RBIs) remained red-hot for the Wildcats, with Ben Smith (1 double, 2 singles, RBI) and Jeremy Fischer (2 singles, 3 RBIs) also delivering clutch hits in the victory. Mark Ogden, Jake Marti, and McCade Brown rounded out the offense for the Cats, each recording base hits.

The Wildcat pitchers gave up only four earned runs on the day.  Marti started on the mound and earned the win for NCWHS, throwing four innings, and recording one strikeout.  Holden Lueck closed out the final two innings and recorded the save, striking out one while allowing no earned runs

The NCWHS Freshman Wildcats return to action at home Wednesday afternoon against Mahomet at 4:30pm.
