The Wildcats rallied late but couldn’t quite overcome a six run deficit, falling 6-4 to the Irish at Peoria Notre Dame Tuesday evening.

Jake Rutkowski started on the hill and took the loss for Normal West, striking out six while allowing six hits and five earned runs over 4 innings of work.  Jake Marti added two more strikeouts, one hit, and one earned run over 2 innings of relief.

Marti (homerun, 2 RBIs) continued his streak, smashing a homerun in his fourth consecutive game – this time to deep left center field – to jump-start the Cats rally in the sixth.  McCade Brown (2 singles, RBI) and Ben Smith (2 singles) stayed hot for NCWHS, with Tyler Ott (single) and Rutkowski (single) also delivering key line drives to keep the sixth inning rally alive.

The Wildcats will look to even the score when Peoria Notre Dame travels to Normal West for a rematch at 4:30pm Thursday evening.

The West JV Wildcats battled the weather and the Rockets Friday night, coming up short 8-5 despite a fifth inning rally in a weather-shortened affair Friday night in Limestone.

Jeremy Fisher started on the hill for Normal West, registering a strikeout, seven hits, and scattering three earned runs over 3 innings of work.  Mark Ogden closed out the final inning, recording an additional strikeout and allowing one hit in relief.

Jake Marti (homerun, RBI) led the offense for the Cats, pounding his second homerun in as many games on a line drive to right field in the second inning.  Ben Smith (double, 2 RBIs), Chase Hacker (double), Fischer (single, RBI), and Holden Lueck (single, RBI) rounded out the rest of the offense for West.

NCWHS JV return to action Saturday, where they’ll face Pekin at the Pekin Sports Complex beginning at 12pm.
