Wildcats Sweep Chargers

The Normal West Wildcats’ bats were on fire Saturday in Champaign, producing 27 runs on 35 hits in a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Champaign Centennial.  The 13-7 and 14-8 wins improved the Wildcats record to 17-5 overall and a league leading 5-0 in conference.  Brock Stewart led the attack with seven hits in the two games, while Kyle Vaughn and Adam Seifert had five, and Wes Sery added four.

In the first game, Kyle Vaughn started on the mound and picked up his sixth win of the season against no losses.  Kyle tossed the first five innings allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks.  Erik Sipes pitched the 6th inning, giving up a run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Brandon Brittin finished the game in the 7th with two runs on three hits.

Brock Stewart led the offensive fireworks in the first game with three hits, including two doubles and scored three runs.  Adam Seifert also had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.  Jason Cullen had two hits and three RBIs, including a deep three run homer to left field in the 7th inning that put the game away.  Kyle Vaughn and Wes Sery both contributed two hits and drove in a run apiece while Jacob Birlingmaier doubled into the rightfield gap to drive in a run and Trey Rogers got the rally started in the 7th with a triple.  Brandon Brittin also singled and drove in a run.

In the second game, the Wildcat bats were just as hot.  Stewart had four hits, including a triple to center and drove in three runs.  Erik Sipes had three hits and two RBIs, with a solo homer to left and a triple.  Trey Rogers had three hits and drove in a run and Kyle Vaughn had three hits and drove in two runs.  Adam Seifert had two hits, scored three times and drove in two runs.  Jacob Birlingmaier singled twice and drove in a run, while Wes Sery did the same.  Jason Cullen knocked in two runs as well with a double and a sacrifice fly. 

Adam Seifert got the win on the mound in relief of Jason Cullen.  Wildcat fielders struggled in the first two innings, committing five errors amidst the four runs that scored.  Seifert came on in the 3rd inning and pitched the last five, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. 

The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday with a conference game at home against Decatur Eisenhower.

Wildcats started out with Turner Reid pitching the first 3 innings keeping the Rockets to one run.  During the 4th and 5th inning, Matt Hunsaker kept the Rockets scoreless.

Josh Appel 3 run homer in the second inning.    Doubles were hit by Alex Jefferson, Matthew James, Adam McGinnis and Kevin Meyers.    The RBIs were led by Josh Appel with 4, Adam McGinnis with 2 and Matthew James, Kevin Meyers, Turner Reid, Nick Heib and Matt Hunsaker all with one.

Caleb Smith and Kyle Zulz pitched for the Wildcats during the second game.   The Wildcats struggled to get on the board during the 2nd game.  Austin Aerola and Turner Reid hits doubles in the second game.   However, it was Matt Hunsaker that was finally able to put the Wildcats on the board with a home run in the 7th inning.

Thank you Dave Meyers for filling in at the grill today.  The pork tenderloins, brats and hots dogs went over well.  As did Cindy’s chocolate chip cookies and brownies.  Thank you parents for helping out at the concession stand.
