Wildcats down the Eagles, 7-3

The Normal West Wildcats made an early lead hold up at windy West Varsity field.  A blustery 35 mph wind blowing straight in from left field made for a challenge at times, but the Wildcats put an early four spot on the board in the first and were in control throughout the game to raise the record to 15-5.

Rantoul 04292010 Varsity Michael Collins held the Eagles scoreless through six innings to get the win before giving up some baserunners in the 7th inning and yielding to Brandon Brittin, who finished out the game.  Collins gave up three runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts, while Brittin gave up one hit in his inning of work.

Brock Stewart led the Wildcat attack with two RBI singles.  In the 1st after Kyle Vaughn and Michael Collins singled, Stewart single up the middle scored Vaughn.  After an Eagle error loaded the bases, Jacob Birlingmaier brought in Collins on a fielders choice.  Erik Sipes walked to load them back up and Wes Sery walked to drive in a run.  A Tyler Emmerson ground ball drove in the final run of the inning.  In the 2nd, Collins got hit by a pitch to start things.  He stole second and scored on a Stewart single to right field.  Stewart took second on the throw home and later scored on a Birlingmaier single to right.  In the 5th, Jason Cullen tripled into the right field corner and scored on a wild pitch.  Stewart and Birlingmaier both had two RBI for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday at Champaign Centennial in a conference matchup at 10:00.
