4-13-2010 Freshman Wildcats vs. St. Thomas Moore

The Wildcat Freshman team (7-0) continued their winnings ways in another convincing win at home against the St. Thomas Moore Sabers.

Game:

Nick Heib was the starting pitcher striking out 5 of the 10 batters he faced, only allowing 1 base runner. Turner Reid and Caleb Smith came in to relieve allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs over the next two innings.

The offensive juggernaut for the Cats continued as they scored 16 runs on 15 hits. Adam McGinnis went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs; Kevin Myers went 3 for 4; Matthew James went 2 for 2 , 4 RBIs and 3 runs; and Alex Jefferson went 2 for 2 and 4 runs led the attack. Matthew James had a mammoth 3 run homer in the 3rd and Chris Smickilas ripped a 2 run double in the 4th.

Thanks again to the awesome field side grill lead by Denise James and Cindy Smith serving the tasty burgers, brats and dogs by chef Marty Smith.

Sophomore LaSalle/Peru 4/11/2010

On a breezy day at the sophomore field our Wildcats Swept the day from LaSalle/Peru, sending them back up the river with 2 defeats, 7 -3 in the first game and 6 – 0 in the second.

Dustin Detweiller started the first game and pitched well. We were down 3 – 1 in the sixth when our offense scored 5 runs on several walks and a key hit by Garret Cook.

Nick Barnhill came in to pitch the seventh to get the save.

Nick then was called upon to start the next game in which he pitched 4 run less innings to finish out a fine day of pitching. Our offense was marked by a two run single by Lucas Horn and also a run producing single by Nick Collins who later scored a run himself. The Wildcats won 6 – 0 to cap off the day.

It was a great day at the ball park, tonight we face Pontiac at the sophmore field.

Wildcats Cruise Past the Cavaliers 16-3

The Normal West Wildcats continued their hot hitting on Saturday against the LaSalle Peru Cavaliers, mashing out 17 hits in a 16-3 win. Nine Wildcats reached safely, led by Jacob Birlingmaier and Adam Seifert with three hits each. Birlingmaier knocked in four runs with a bases clearing triple and a single, while Erik Sipes drove in three runs with a home run and a double. Wes Sery drove in four runs and had a double and single on the day and Kyle Vaughn knocked in two runs and had two singles. Jason Cullen had two hits and an RBI as well.

Michael Collins was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats and got the win, going five strong innings. The curveball was particularly effective as Collins fanned nine Cavaliers. He allowed six hits and gave up three walks as well. Brandon Brittin was overpowering in relief. He fanned six of the seven hitters he faced, allowing only one hit.

The Wildcats started their scoring in the 2^nd on a Tyler Emmerson triple to center and a Kyle Vaughn sacrifice fly. In the 4^th, Birlingmaier singled to lead off. Brittin, the courtesy runner, moved to second and third base on wild pitches and scored on a double steal after Erik Sipes had walked. In the 5^th, the Cavaliers kicked the ball around a bunch, allowing the Wildcats to score three times on five errors highlighted by a Birlingmaier RBI single.

After the Cavaliers made things interesting with three runs in the bottom of the 5^th to cut the lead in half, the Wildcats put it out of reach in the 6^th. With two outs, the Wildcats scored four runs on an Adam Seifert single, walks to Michael Collins and Jason Cullen and a Jacob Birlingmaier triple to deep right center. Wes Sery then brought home Birlingmaier. In the 7^th, Vaughn, Brittin and Collins singles loaded the bases before a Cullen RBI single. A Sery double brought in two more and Sipes finished it with a three run shot to left field.

The Wildcats upped their record to 6-5 in front of a Monday home game with the Springfield Senators.

JV Wins 11-8

In the junior varsity second game, the Wildcats prevailed 11-8 as they scored five in the first and one in every inning after that. Trey Rogers had three hits, including a three-run home run and Erik Sipes had three hits with a homer. Nolan Caldwell doubled, Brandon Zwaga had an RBI single and Zack Boicken was on base three times on a double and two walks. Trey Rogers got the win for the Wildcats on the mound, pitching the first three innings. Wes Sery threw two scoreless innings as well.
