NCWHS JV show promise, come up short against Moline in opening day doubleheader

The NCWHS Wildcats took a 4-2 lead into the 7th, but came up short in a 7-5 loss to Moline in the first game of their double-header.

McCade Brown started on the mound for NCWHS, ringing up eight strikeouts, scattering four hits, and giving up no earned runs over 4 strong innings of work.  Mark Ogden logged 2 1/3 innings of work, registering two more strikeouts before giving way to Jake Marti to close out the bottom of the seventh.

Ben Smith (double, sac bunt, RBI) and Jake Rutkowski (double, RBI) started the scoring for the Wildcats with a pair of doubles and a run in the fourth inning.  Smith, Brown (single, 2 RBIs), Holden Lueck (double, single), and Jeremy Fischer (single) combined for three more runs in the fifth inning, with Ben Heberer (single) and Marti (sac fly, RBI) also contributing in the loss.

NCWHS dropped the second half of their double-header 11-1 to Moline in Normal on Saturday.

Jeremy Fischer was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats, throwing 5 solid innings while notching six strikeouts, distributing four hits, and giving up just one earned run.  Chase Hacker and Ethan Stroyan combined to close out the sixth inning, each recording one and two strikeouts, respectively.

Jake Marti (single, RBI) drove in the only run for NCWHS, with Ben Smith (single), Fischer (single), and Max Deffenbaugh (single) providing the remainder of the offense for the Cats.

The Wildcats return to the field Monday afternoon at 4:15pm to face Morton on the NCWHS JV baseball field.
