Normal West out-hit University High but it wasn’t enough to upend the Pioneers, as the Cats fell 2-0 in a hard-fought game Monday night at NCWHS.
Zack Jones started on the hill and threw 5 strong innings for NCWHS in defeat, striking out seven while allowing just two hits and one earned run. Jake Rutkowski closed out the final 2 innings, striking out two more while giving up one hit and no earned runs in relief.
Max Deffenbaugh (2 singles) led the Wildcats at the plate, with Tyler Ott (single), Jeremy Fischer (single), and Chase Hacker (single) each chipping in with base hits in the loss.
Normal West will look to start a new win streak when they face Peoria Richwoods at home Tuesday evening at 4:30pm.
